Interview with NERVECELL
Interviewer: Pervison

JorZine reporter "Pervison" has conducted the following interview with NERVECELL Dubai-Based Death Metal band, They successfully released their last album “Preaching Venon” and confirmed to play at Dubai Desert Rock Festival 2009 along with MOTORHEAD, OPETH, ARCH ENEMY, CHIMAIRA and AUGUST BURNS RED on March 6, 2009 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

JZ: : First of all, I'd like to thank you guys for this opportunity once again, hows it going?

Rami: Thanks for having us here, I’m doing great!

Barney: Your welcome, always a pleasure.

JZ: It was announced that you guys will be performing at DDRF 09, who are you excited to share the stage with the most?

Rami: It’s always a pleasure to play for the Dubai crowd along side killer bands. This year’s Desert Rock (2008) was a success and hopefully next year will be as great. I’m a huge fan of Opeth, Arch Enemy and Motorhead, and playing on the same stage is going to be a blast!

Barney: Well we’ve played on the same bill with Motorhead last year in Metalcamp Festival (Slovenia) and that was pretty epic, I’m definitely excited to play alongside Opeth! I know they have been looking forward to playing this part of the world for a very long time and it’s great to see them consider coming to the Middle East again after their show in Jordan got cancelled 2 years ago. It going to be exciting as Fuck!

JZ: Are you guys fans of any of the bands in the "United We Rock Online Band Battle" competition?

Rami: I have friends from bands such as Sunking, Abhorred and Scarab who all play amazing music. Whoever is winning this competition is a lucky mofo to go onto two festivals, now that’s a prize hehe!

Barney: To be honest we pretty much know most of those bands on there on a personal level so its actually weird to see so many of our friends take a shot at this very rewarding offer for the first time. I’m totally digging Abhorred, Scarab, Perversion and Sun King, I personally think these bands are the more deserving bunch of the lot as I’ve seen their efforts and I know their capabilities of playing to an audience like Desert Rock and With Full Force. May the best band win!

JZ: What do you think of the idea, of having an “Online Band Battle Competition”?

Barney: I think its fucking lame really, I mean you don’t need anyone to tell you this but there are ways out there (software’s, companies etc.) that make a living out of this sort of stuff where you can literally hire them to give you as much as a 100 to a 1000 votes a day depending on how much you are willing to pay!
We know CSM are giving an amazing opportunity out here for these bands but we have also seen and learnt first hand how this industry works and we would rather play a show or a festival where we are actually invited to play.
At the end of the day man all this “Online Battle Competition” really is nothing but a simple marketing strategy where the bands are the ones that go out and spread the word about the festival by asking their friends, fans, families and “software’s” in some cases to vote for them. In any case I hope the band that does end up winning wins for all the right reasons and that is for the music first and everything else later.

JZ: When can we expect "Demean" to debut?

Rami: Hopefully before the end of the year.

JZ: : Is David Haley still handling the kit?

Rami: We had plans to work together live, that was right after recording the album with him, but he is very busy with Psycroptic in the meantime..

Barney: Dave will always be a part of Nervecell, in fact we were scheduled to perform for a couple of shows last year with him in Morocco and Egypt, however those shows either got cancelled or postponed. He is a busy guy though especially since Psycroptic just got signed to Nuclear Blast so yeah we are stoked for him.

JZ: Any plans of a mini Middle-Eastern tour ?

Rami: We did speak about it but we have no plans yet at least for the next upcoming year as we are focusing on Europe and other regions, and hopefully in the future we will work out something for the Middle East.

Barney: It has always been my dream to have one, unfortunately when you have organizers who don’t cooperate with each other and only see each other as competitors there is only so much one can do to organize a tour here in the Middle East.

JZ: Apart from Nervecell, what do you guys do on your normal day to day lives ?

Rami: I recently completed my graduate studies (MBA) so I’m not busy with it anymore haha. I spend most of my free time playing guitar, listening to music, reading, surfing the internet, hanging out with friends and spending time with family.

Barney: I work a full time job (9am – 6pm) 5 days a week, I really hope I don’t have to for the rest of my life lol, I’d rather be on the road in the middle of nowhere getting geared up to play a show. Apart from that I’m usually either jamming on the guitar, hanging out with friends and family, hitting the gym or catching up on some sleep!

JZ: What is your favourite thing to do on stage?

Rami: Well other than playing guitar, I like to move around on stage (if there’s enough space of course). I also tend to stare at the crowd a lot haha. Going on stage in general is my favorite!

Barney: Unleash the true beast inside of me! I go on there to completely fuckin deliver 100%. It’s almost like going to fuckin war…haha! Nothing but good times man.

JZ: Would you like add anything for your Jorziners out there?

Rami: Thanks for reading this interview, do check Nervecell out if you haven’t yet by visiting our website www.nervecell.net and MySpace page www.myspace.com/nervecell.
Keep supporting metal!

Barney: Dudes we would love to come visit your beautiful country and play a show there! Let’s hope it works out one fine day.
Until then stay Brutal and let the metal flow!
